Product Descriptions
-
- a 102-minute video - available on DVD
- a 186-page Teaching Resource Manual
This intermediate-level video/DVD program includes 12 episodes with two characters trying to solve a mystery. Each episode corresponds to a lesson in
Russian Faces and Voices, but the video is designed so that it can easily supplement any Russian textbook. The video can be used after the appropriate grammar and vocabulary have been taught. In the 98-minute video, the two characters, Masha and Dennis, try to solve a mystery. Along the way, nine individuals from various backgrounds are met, and the viewer/reader gains valuable insights into the lives of these nine Russian characters. An accompanying
Teacher's Resource Manual contains a section entitled "How to Work with the Video," which offers suggestions for watching, listening, and combination watching-and-listening activities; a Teaching Guide, which provides questions and answers, cultural notes, language notes, and suggestions for oral work for each lesson; a complete side-by-side Russian/English script with descriptions of the actions and the places portrayed in the video; and Student Activity Sheets for each episode in the form of blackline masters. Directions for the students are given in English for Episodes 1—6 and in Russian for Episodes 7—12.

What do Russian young people think about dating, marrying, finding apartments,
eating in Russian restaurants, becoming acquainted with Russian folk
instruments and dances, working, and relaxing at summer dachas? How do
Russians interact with each other in social and business situations? What
are their thoughts about ecology, Russian art, the Russian character, the
roles Ivan IV, Peter I, and Stalin played in Russia's history? How do Russians
view the United States? Follow four Russian students as they interact with
each other and with adults in a variety of settings to discuss these topics.
This intermediate-to advanced-level video program includes themes that correspond to each lesson from the
Mir Russkikh textbook; however, the video may also supplement any intermediate
or advanced Russian text. An accompanying teacher's resource manual includes
instructions on how to work with the video, questions and answers, suggested
activities, cultural and language notes, Russian/English script, and student
activity sheets.
